The Boundaries of Loyalty: When Your Boss Asks for Dirty Work

1. A Bloody Case
Entrepreneur Ms. Su in Shandong borrowed over one million yuan at usury rates. She repaid 1.8 million plus a 700,000-yuan house—still 170,000 short. Collector Du San and his men stormed in, shoved her head into a feces-filled toilet, even exposed himself to her face. Police came, said “no hitting,” and left. Su’s son, Yu Huan, grabbed a fruit knife, stabbed Du San to death, seriously injured two, lightly injured one. Yu was sentenced to life in prison.
Public opinion roared: defending mother is natural. But look at Du San—30s, doing dirty work for a gangster boss, once hit and killed someone without getting caught. He chose that path. We’re not gangsters, but who guarantees your boss won’t ask you to cross lines?
If ordered to do dirty work, how to protect yourself?
2. Three Principles for Survival
1. The Polite Harm Principle
“Sorry, it’s my job.”
In period dramas, personal revenge: “You dog! Look at me!” Professional killing: “Forgive me, it’s the law.” Apologizing—first, superstition, afraid of vengeful spirits; second, fear the victim won’t cooperate, making the kill messy. Old-school cooks apologize to fish: “Fish, don’t blame me—you’re just a dish.”
Du San’s mistake: disrespect. Insulting and harming the debtor provoked the son—and the knife. Professional collectors today don’t hit or curse. They move into the debtor’s home, deprive sleep. After 72 hours, most comply. Politeness reduces trouble.
Layoffs, firings—same. Kind words may not earn forgiveness, but they reduce the blows.
2. The Dividing Line of Interests
Boss and employee always have divergent interests. Boss Wu wanted money; Du San wanted bonuses—aligned. But Du San forgot: safety first. Don’t harm the debtor, don’t get hurt. A bold boss can make underlings hallucinate—he’s invincible, can fix anything. Du San killed someone and walked free; he got cocky.

3. No Humiliation
Even bandits knew: no rape. Not moral superiority—learned the hard way. Fighting over women causes infighting; rape loses ransom money and invites maximum hatred.
Du San exposed himself to a middle-aged woman—not lust, but control. Result? Death.
Workplace too. Be strict with vendors, subordinates—but don’t insult their taste, looks, competence. Remember: your company chose them—probably because they’re cheap.
3. How to Refuse Dirty Work
Corporate dirty work: smearing competitors, bribery, undercover ops,违规 practices. Finance people ask me: what if boss orders high-risk illegal acts?
My answer: don’t do illegal things. Your job framework doesn’t include “illegal.”
Client says sleep with me and I’ll sign? Not in your job description—don’t do it. If it is in your job description—run, call police.
Some say: “Wei, I can’t refuse, I pursue perfection—boss says do it, I go all out.”
Perfection? Real perfection is following rules. Years later, when investigated, you’re clean, your boss unaffected.
In Snow White, the huntsman sent by the queen—classic case of leaving room when doing dirty work. In real life, if forced, use email for everything. Records are your last shield.

一、一个血淋淋的案例
山东女企业家苏女士,借了100多万高利贷,还了180多万加一套70万的房子,还差17万。催收的杜三带人上门,把她头按进有粪便的马桶,甚至脱了裤子用下体对着她的脸。警察来过,说不许打人又走了。苏女士的儿子于欢,拿起水果刀,捅死杜三,重伤两人,轻伤一人。于欢被判无期。
舆论一边倒:护母天经地义。但换个角度,看看杜三——30多岁,替涉黑老板干脏活,曾撞死人没被抓。他是个烂仔,主动走上这条路。我们不是黑社会,但谁能保证老板不会让你干点擦边球的事?

二、三条保命原则
1. 客气伤害原则
“不好意思,这是我的工作。”
古装片里,私人寻仇:“你这狗贼!看看我是谁!”职业杀人:“得罪了,这是朝廷王法。”道歉,一是怕冤魂缠身,二是怕对方不配合,杀起来费劲。老派厨子杀鱼都要念:“鱼儿莫怪,你是人间一道菜。”
杜三就是吃了不客气的亏——侮辱、伤害债务人,激怒少年,挨了刀子。现在专业催收,不打不骂,吃住在对方家,剥夺睡眠。72小时熬下来,基本都答应。客气,才能少麻烦。
裁员、开除人,也一样。好声好气,对方未必原谅你,但能让你少挨刀。
2. 利益分水岭
老板和员工,永远有利益分歧。吴老板要钱,杜三拿奖金——利益一致。但杜三忘了:安全第一。不能打坏债务人,更不能自己受伤。老板大胆,容易让马仔产生幻觉:他无所不能,出事也能摆平。杜三撞死人没坐牢,就飘了。
《亮剑》里,楚云飞当团长时能和李云龙做朋友,因为他离阎锡山、蒋介石远。当了军长,直接对蒋介石汇报,利益分水岭缩小,就开始和李云龙性命相搏。
策反伪军,也是谈利益分水岭:“鬼子给你发饷,打仗让你先上——你费的是八路的子弹!”
3. 不要侮辱
土匪都懂:不奸淫妇女。不是道德高尚,是血的教训——争女人会内讧,侵犯妇女会损失赎金,还会招致最大仇恨。
杜三脱裤子侮辱中年妇女,不是性冲动,是享受控制欲。结果呢?命没了。
职场也一样。对乙方、下属,工作要求可以苛刻,但别侮辱审美、嘲讽长相。记住:贵司选这样的人,多半是因为便宜。
三、脏活儿怎么拒
商场脏活儿:暗伤对手、行贿、卧底、违规操作。财务问我怎么办?我说:违法的事不干。你的工作框架里,不包括违法。
客户要你陪睡才签单?入职时没这条,就别干。入职时就说要陪睡?赶紧逃,报警。
有人说:维总,我做不到,我追求完美,领导布置就全力做。
完美?真正的完美是遵守规则,多年后查起来,你干干净净,领导也不受牵连。
《白雪公主》里,后妈派出的猎人,就是做脏活留余地的人。现实中,逼不得已,记得全部用邮件汇报——留痕,是最后的护身符。
