You wrote the proposal, closed the deal, pulled all-nighters—yet at the meeting, your boss casually says, “Our team did some work,” and the glory is all his.
Hold on. That’s not “stealing.”
Two lions fighting over one antelope—that’s a steal. A fisherman letting a cormorant catch fish, then squeezing its neck to spit them out—that’s harvesting.
Your boss is harvesting your achievements. He assigns your tasks, sets your pay, evaluates your performance—your results are naturally his. Mentioning you in his report is kindness; not mentioning you is the norm.

1. Your Boss Is No Longer the Person He Once Was
Most middle managers are 35–50. Psychologists call this “middle adulthood.” At this stage, people truly feel aging for the first time—presbyopia, graying hair, obituaries of peers. Their passion for work is slowly shifting to hobbies: fishing, prayer beads, Buddhism, kids’ education.
You expect him to mentor you like a guru? Wrong. He’s not interested in teaching. The company hired you—saved money doesn’t go to him. Spending time teaching you doesn’t boost his KPIs. Unless—you make him feel it’s worth it.
How? Handle his琐事, show potential, prove you’ll succeed and remember favors. A mentor-mentee bond isn’t a work obligation—it’s personal. You have to initiate.
2. Your Boss Represents the Company, but He Isn’t the Company
In foreign firms, employees call their boss “my boss.” Say it enough, and you start thinking boss and company are one.
Actually, your boss is just a department head. There’s a gap between his interests and the company’s—military jargon calls it a “seam.” A parking lot attendant (employee) can say, “Make it ten, no receipt.” If he owns the lot, it’s strictly twenty. That seam is where relationships work.
Your raise—negotiable? Convincing top management needs performance; convincing your immediate boss might just need a good relationship. He faces KPI pressure too, might make you bear burdens, but he might also cut you some slack out of friendship.
You, your boss, the company—three parties. Don’t dump your company grievances solely on your boss.
3. In Top Management’s Eyes, You’re Practically a Stranger
Caesar bragged he knew 30,000 soldiers. In reality, a regiment commander can’t remember all platoon leaders’ faces.
Top leaders are busier than your boss, more into calligraphy, Buddhism, gardening. You report to him? He can’t even match your name. Unless you’re stunningly handsome/beautiful, don’t expect to shine by skipping levels. Help your direct boss succeed, let him rise, and he’ll pull you up—that’s the path.
Don’t cry “humiliation” when you’re stepped on. If your boss disregards your interests, leave. Devote your passion only to those who value it.

一、你的领导,早已不是当年的他
大多数中层在35-50岁之间。心理学叫“成年中期”。这个阶段的人,第一次真切感受到衰老——老花眼、白头发、同龄人的讣告。他们对工作的热情,正一点点转移给钓鱼、手串、信佛、孩子教育。
你以为他应该像导师一样倾囊相授?错了。他对当老师没兴趣。公司雇你,省下的钱不会加给他;他花时间教你,换不来KPI。除非——你主动让他觉得值得教。
怎么做?帮他解决琐事,展示潜质,让他看到你以后能成事、能念旧。师徒关系不是工作义务,是私人情谊。你得主动。
二、领导代表公司,但他不是公司
外企员工爱叫领导“我的老板”。叫久了,真以为领导跟公司是一体的。
其实领导只是部门负责人,他跟公司的利益之间有道缝儿——军事术语叫“接合部”。停车场管理员是雇员,可以商量“十块不要票”;他自己承包,一分不能少。这道缝,就是搞关系的地方。
你的薪水可涨可不涨?说服大领导要业绩,说服小领导可能靠关系就够了。领导也有KPI压力,也会让你受委屈,但他也可能顾念情谊,枪口抬高一寸。
你、领导、公司,是三方。别把对公司的怨气只撒在领导身上。
三、大领导眼里,你≈路人
恺撒吹牛说认识三万士兵。现实中,团长记不全所有排长的脸。
大领导比你领导还忙,更关心书法、活佛、养花。你跟他汇报?他连你名字都对不上。除非你美若天仙,否则别指望越级露脸。踏实帮直属领导立功,让他上位,他伸手拉你——这才是正路。
别被踩一脚就喊“人格侮辱”。如果领导不顾你利益,趁早离开。一腔热血,只卖识货的。
